Hedberg returns to Rangers, will scout Europeans

WHA legend Anders Hedberg has been named New York Rangers' head professional European scout to assess free agents in Europe.

Hedberg, 56, played seven seasons in the NHL with the Rangers, from 1978 to 1985.

The former WHA star, who jumped to the Rangers with Ulf Nilsson in 1978, was general manager of the Swedish national hockey program from 2000-2002 and of Team Sweden at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Hedberg was director of player personnel with the Ottawa Senators the last five years.
